

Not really necessary at all, but if you have a big enough hard drive, might as well make it 8GB. Here you can change the virtual paging file size. If you go one tab over to the right, you'll be in the ' Advanced' section. This will give you the most noticeable boost, at the most noticeable cost. On old computers that can't run 1080p videos smoothly, disabling everything made the videos run like butter. 20% faster? This is just a really random estimate, but in my experience, it helps a lot. If you disable everything, your computer will no longer use the 'Aero' transparent look. There are some guides online on which is the most efficient things to disable for a performance boost.

Here, you can adjust things how you like. Click the button under 'Performance' 'Settings'. On the left, you'll see ' Advanced System Settings'. You can close out of the msconfig window now if you want. It will open up a familiar control panel window. Lastly, go to Tools, and Select ' System Properties' and 'Launch'.

Additionally, sometimes what I do is hit Ctrl-Alt-Escape to bring up the task manager, look at running processes, and see which ones take up the most memory, and prioritizing disabling those ones. I always disable almost every update thing. I even disable steam, because I don't need it starting up with my computer all the time. Anything that starts up with your computer will take time, disable anything thats not mission critical. A lot of laptops come with bloatware, so stuff like "HP SmartStart" you should definitely disable. Or you can just look at the description, and if you know what you're doing, disable it.

You can look up online what windows services you don't need. Not necessary by any means, but while we're here, might as well do it. That gets rid of the windows logo when booting, and can make it boot a bit faster. Go to the Boot tab and hit ' No GUI boot'. Go to Start Menu > Click on the bottom textbar > Type "msconfig" > hit enter. Not like, overclocking or any hardware solution. Keep in mind, these are all just Windows tips.
